SAFETY FLAGS
Safety flags must be inserted in the barrel at any time when you leave your allocated bay.
- All pistols are to remain in their storage container behind the firing line until the range officer calls “Preparation Time”.
- At this time the pistol container can be placed on the bench and the pistol removed. Muzzle pointing down range. The breach opened and the safety flag inserted. The pistol to be placed on the bench with the muzzle pointing down range.
- An empty magazine for semi auto pistols can be placed on the bench in preparation. Revolvers must have their cylinder in an open position and safety flag inserted.
- When the Range Officer calls load. A maximum of 5 rounds can be loaded into the magazine or revolver. The breach or cylinder then closed.
- At the completion of the series, the breach is to be made open. Safety flag inserted and for semi autos the magazine removed. Air Pistols are to have a bright coloured safety flag inserted which passes through the full length of the barrel.
- Malfunctions. If there is time in precision events and the athlete is confident that the issue can be rectified. Removing a dud round or one sticking the breach open as example. They can make the adjustment and continue the series. There are other considerations and if in doubt talk to the Range Officer prior to the match. It is advisable during times sequences not to self rectify but to lower the pistol to 45 degrees and hold out the non shooting arm to alert the Range Officer who will deal with the malfunction.
- At the competition completion the Range Officer will clear your pistol for removal. At that time the pistol can be placed in it’s container on the shooting bench and then the container removed to the rear.
- Remember the Range Officer runs the range. Only listen to them for range commands.
