Why ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation)
Beaudesert Pistol Club Inc. is dedicated to the pursuit of ISSF pistol shooting, offering club members and affiliated visitors an opportunity to participate in a number of ISSF target pistol events.
ISSF is a very purist form of the shooting sports and is concerned only with attaining the highest possible score on specified targets in accordance with the rules as set down for each match.
Many members of our club shoot just to maintain a personally satisfying standard and have done so for years. In this respect, pistol shooting can be compared with golf, which is also a “lifetime” sport and one in which there are literally hundreds of recreational participants for every regular tournament player.
Accordingly, while recreational shooters may restrict their participation to club events, they still have performance goals, such as a personal best, a grade break, or winning their grade at the club championships. However, striving for any performance goal is a form of competition, and in this respect, recreational shooters face the same challenges as those who compete in open tournaments.
Members of the Beaudesert Club and pistol clubs in general come from a wide range of backgrounds and are an enthusiastic and very sociable group of people.
Affiliation
Beaudesert Pistol Club is affiliated with Pistol Shooting Queensland the state body that in turn is a member of Target Pistol Australia (TPA)/Shooting Australia who administer the rules and regulations for all ISSF matches offered through the many affiliated shooting clubs worldwide.
TPA is the premier target pistol shooting organisation in Australia with the mandate to field pistol teams to the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, ISSF World Championships, ISSF World Cups and other international target pistol shooting competitions such as the Oceania Shooting Federation Championships (OSF), Bianchi Cup, Action Pistol World Championships, International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union (IMSSU) World Championships and WA1500 World Championships.
TPA currently has approximately 20,000 members in its State and Territory Associations, is a non-profit organisation and does not receive funding from the Federal Government.
TPA is responsible for conducting national championships in all ISSF pistol events, the TPA Black Powder events, the TPA Service Pistol events, the Bianchi events of Action Pistol, IMSSU Metallic Silhouette and WA1500 match events. Its members are represented through Shooting Australia (SA) to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
Shooting Australia is the overarching entity representing all shooting sports in Australia and in part represents Australian shooters internationally via the International Shooting Sport Federation and Commonwealth Shooting Federation.
Shooting Australia is recognised domestically by the Australian Sports Commission; Australian Olympic Committee; Australian Paralympic Committee; and the Australian Commonwealth Games Association as the National Sporting Organisation for target shooting sports.
Club members through their state affiliation are able to visit other PSQ/TPA affiliated clubs and compete in Open Tournaments or even just club events. There are many who travel throughout Australia visiting clubs and making many friends along their way.
Affiliation with PSQ provides insurance protection, as long as on range activity is conducted within ISSF match rules, Weapons Licensing (WLB) and local range rules.
Safety
Pistol Shooting in PSQ/TPA affiliated clubs is extremely safe due to all athletes understanding the match rules and the range procedures administered by well-trained Range Officers running the allocated match.
Getting Started
Those from aged 11 upwards can compete, although under 18’s will require a parental / guardian (who is a licenced club member) consent to participate. Shooting is a low impact sport and often appeals to those who no longer participate in more active sports, but still have a competitive edge and who enjoy meeting others and just participating in a weekly activity. Shooting sports also cater for those with a disability and there are Para Olympic pathways for those with drive.
